Eyes Above the Horizon™ - Location Change!!

On Saturday, September 24, 2022, PMI SoMd will partner with the Legacy Flight Academy™ to host a day long event for approximately 100 students from high schools in Anne Arundel, Charles and Prince George's counties to introduce them to the world of flight.  Eyes Above the Horizon™ - DC, MD, VA (EAH-DMV) is offered, at no cost to the students.  We are seeking volunteers, in-kind, and financial donations for event logistics and operational expenses.  Sponsor packages are available at several levels.  Interested in supporting this event?

EAH-DMV will showcase aircraft and introduce the students to pilot mentors who will educate them about potential careers in aviation.  For many of these students, this will be their first time seeing a plane up close and we hope they leave excited about aviation. We have commitments from local and national leaders to participate:

  • Lt Gen Nina Armagno, USSF, Director of Staff of the United States Space Force, will be our guest speaker to kick off the event
  • Lt Gen Bruce "Orville" Wright, USAF (ret.), President of the Air & Space Forces Association
  • General  Larry O. Spencer, USAF (ret.)former Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force will join us for lunch.

I believe this will be a great opportunity to showcase Tipton to the aviation community and the community at large.  This promises to be a great event for the students and community alike.

The event is being orchestrated by the Southern Maryland Chapter of the Project Management Institute. The PMI Southern Maryland Chapter is a dynamic leading-edge organization of dedicated project management professionals who are committed to serving the business and educational community of Southern Maryland through the advancement of Project Management knowledge.   For EAH-DMV, we are partnering with the Legacy Flight Academy™ (LFA) with the support of the Central East Region of the Air & Space Force Association (AFA), and the Apollo I Senior Squadron, Maryland Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.  LFA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that conducts character-based youth aviation programs that draw upon the legacy of the famous Tuskegee Airmen. LFA's comprehensive three-tiered approach works with partner organizations to help minorities and underrepresented youth achieve success as aerospace and STEM professionals, particularly emphasizing military career opportunities.  The LFA board members are U.S. military aviators who are the living legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen of WW-II fame.
