Eyes Above the Horizon™
100 Black Men of Greater Washington, D.C. (100 BMGWDC) is partnering with the Tuskegee Airmen Legacy Flight Academy (LFA) for an event called Eyes Above The Horizon™.
100 BMGWDC was founded in 1995 in response to the call to action voiced during the Million Man March. A group of eleven professional Black men, concerned about the future of the youth in their community, came together and decided that it was their responsibility to step up and make a difference. Following the model of 100 Black Men of America, Inc., they established the Greater Washington, D.C. chapter as a member of the national organization.
LFA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that conducts character-based youth aviation programs that draw upon the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen. LFA's comprehensive three-tiered approach works with partner organizations to help minorities and underrepresented youth achieve success as aerospace and STEM professionals, particularly emphasizing military career opportunities. The LFA board members are military pilots who are the living legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen of WW-II fame.
For this event, we are seeking 10 aircraft and pilot mentors to provide introductory flights to about 100 students over the course of the all-day event. We are working with aviation professionals and volunteers from LFA to host this event. Our logistics will cover everything from food and hand sanitizers to liability insurance and Porta-Potties. We are soliciting funding from corporate sponsors to pay for aircraft rentals, fuel, and instructors. However, we are on a budget and we would appreciate any "in kind" donation that might be available.

This promises to be a great event. We have commitments from local and national leaders to participate. I believe this will be a great opportunity to showcase Maryland Airport to the aviation community and highlight the role of general aviation in serving the community at large.
