Topic: Managing Through the Perfect Storm
Speaker: David Schwantes
Have you ever had one of those projects where the odds seemed stacked against you, and managing to a successful outcome seemed out of reach? Sure, you say, just about every project has these challenges, right? After digging into some hard facts reported in PMI’s Pulse of the Profession 2018, David will provide a refresher of the main components that make up a project, and a review of the Process Groups and Knowledge Areas, as outlined in the PMBOK sixth edition. He will also share a tried and true model for Group Development that will be familiar to many and is essential to understand in forming new teams.
In an effort to make it all make sense, David will then overlay this framework on two very different actual projects, a short 30-day strategy engagement extreme example, and a 6-month Software Delivery project for a US Federal Agency more traditional. He’ll compare and contrast how the approach was tailored for each project, by utilizing different combinations of the Knowledge Areas and applying Principles of Project Management to achieve successful outcomes.
Participants will have a chance to review core elements of the PMBOK sixth edition and revisit a familiar model of group development. Participants will learn techniques for setting and managing client expectations and see examples of an Agile Framework as well as a more traditional Waterfall Method used for actual projects. Participants will also learn tips to manage through those challenging times (the Perfect Storm) and they will walk away with 5 elements that are critical to achieving successful projects.
Drinks and Food will be served.
